A tentative list has been released stating the number of people from different countries who participated in the Tablighi Jamaat event in Delhi after which coronavirus cases in India exploded and continues to rise. According to the list, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Myanmar are the nations from where people in large numbers had attended Delhi's Jamaat event among other countries.
Coronavirus cases in the country has surged over 2,300-mark on Friday including 56 deaths. In the past four days, COVID-19 confirmed cases have witnessed a sharp rise of nearly 1,000 cases following Tabilghi Jamaat's event where close to 2,000 people had gathered for a religeious event. The country is under a 21-day lockdown after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced it on March 24 asking citizens to maintain social distancing and remain indoors as it was necessary to contain the virus from spreading further.
6 out of 28 Tablighi Jamaat attendees test coronavirus positive in Agra
Earlier in the day, at least six out of 28 people from Agra, who had attended the Tablighi Jamaat event in Delhi's Nizamuddin Markaz have tested positive for coronavirus. With the fresh positive cases of COVID-19, Agra's total tally is now at 18. According to Prabhu N Singh, District Magistrate Agra, eight people have so far recovered and have been discharged from the hospitals. On Thursday, two absconding persons, who had attended the Tablighi Jamaat in Delhi's Nizamuddin last month, were held in Greater Noida and quarantined, police said.
