Jalgaon (Maharashtra), May 18: The then President  Pratibha Devisingh Patil, at the fag end of her tenure, hurriedly inaugurated an airport in her home district Jalgaon, but airline carriers are showing scant interest in flying their planes to this place.

The only plane to land at this airport was that of the then President's in March last year, when she descended to cut the ribbon and inaugurate the airport.

Since then not a single flight has landed here. The reason: the airport doesn't have a licence, and it doesn't have Fire, Air Traffic Control or Meeorological departments working there, reports Mumbai Mirror.

In 2012,the AAI spent nearly Rs 25 lakh for the inauguration. In the name of amenities, the 630 acre-airport has only a terminal building that can accommodate a maximum of 50 people. The AAI is yet apply for a licence, and it knows that it can't get one, unless it has all the facilities in place.

Civil Aviation ministry sources said the AAI top brass decided to inaugurate even before it was fully equipped.
