Jaipur: The Rajasthan government today claimed that there was no “hunger death” in Kotdara village of Udaipur district in 2010.

Rajasthan Tribal Area Development Minister, Nand Lal Meena also told the House that a committee set up by former Congress government to solve the charter of demands of tribal people completed its job and was later dissolved.

On a question of NPP MLA, K L Meena, the Rajasthan Tribal Area Development Minister replied that there was “no human death” due to hunger in Kotdara, and if any member of the House wanted to go see the village, he would accompany him.

“If any such report or incident of hunger death is found, then action would be ensured”, Meena said.  In his 56-page reply, the Minister quoted Udaipur District Magistrate's report in which no one died of hunger in the tribal area in 2010 and rejected a media report in a Hindi newspaper.

Previous Gehlot government had constituted a high-level committee of 33 members including former ministers on 43 demands of tribal people of Udaipur division in 2011, he said, adding the committee had satisfactorily resolved their issues, and after that the committee was dissolved.

“There was no official announcement of compensation of Rs one lakh each to anyone, free house, and free foodgrains, nor were there 33 hunger or starvation deaths report by the previous Congress government”.
