Gurgaon: The condition of veteran Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Ashok Singhal, hospitalised here after developing heart and kidney problems and breathlessness, remains "very serious", doctors said on Monday.

The patient was not showing any sign of improvement, they added.

"Singhal is being treated for cardiac and nephrological problems. He has also developed problems in breathing and is not showing any progress in his vital parameters," a source told IANS.

"The patient opens his eyes after regular intervals but he is not in a position to speak or respond," the source said.

Singhal, who was admitted to Medanta - The Medicity hospital here in Sector 38, is being kept on life-support systems in the Intensive Care Unit.

Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev, union minister Harsh Vardhan, VHP leader Praveen Togadia, Maninderjeet Singh Bitta, chairman, All-India Anti-Terrorist Front, and a few state leaders visited the hospital on Monday to enquire about Singhal's health.

Togadia had also visited the hospital on Sunday along with Haryana Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and union ministers Rajnath Singh and Uma Bharti.

A team of doctors headed by Sanjay Mittal, director of Clinical Cardiology and Research at Medanta, is treating Singhal.

Singhal was referred to the same hospital on October 20, but he was discharged after he showed signs of improvement. He was again brought back on Friday night as his condition deteriorated.

BJP president Amit Shah, union Health Minister J.P. Nadda, and BJP general secretary (organisation) Ramlal visited the hospital on Saturday to enquire about Singhal's health.

All the visitors, however, could not meet him as Singhal is on life-support.
