Patna: Amid indications of growing closeness between Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's JD(U) and Ram Vilas Paswan's LJP, opposition BJP today said any “opportunistic” tie-up would not help as the base voters of LJP would side with BJP in the coming Lok Sabha elections.

“Nitish Kumar will not gain anything by forging opportunistic alliance with LJP as base voters of the party will side with BJP in the coming Parliamentary elections,” senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi told reporters.  “With nine MLAs hailing from Scheduled Caste, BJP is the true champion of the SCs,” he said.  Modi refused to buy Kumar's claim of having no truck with the Congress.

“While on the one hand, the CM is denying any attempt to forge alliance with the Congress, on the other hand, many leaders of his own party are in touch with Congress for tie-up,” Modi said, adding, “Kumar is waiting for an alliance with Congress.”

He, however, said shaking hands between leaders does not guarantee acceptance of ties among people.  Attacking Congress, Sushil Kumar Modi said it was supporting Nitish Kumar government in Bihar like it has extended support to Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Admi Party in Delhi.

Four Congress MLAs had voted for Nitish Kumar government to bail out his minority government during the trust motion in June post split from the NDA.  The former Bihar deputy chief minister claimed the country was witnessing a wave in favour of the BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi this time.
