Deoghar, Jharkhand, Sept 24 : Nine pilgrims, of them 8 women and a male, were killed in a stampede that took place early this morning during the satsang of Thakur Anukul Chandra on his birth anniversary at his samadhi.
Nearly two lakh pilgrims thronged the place to join the satsang, and all crowd control arrangements went haywire.
More than twelve pilgrims were hospitalized and the Jharkhand government has ordered a probe into the incident.
The Satsang ashram in Deoghar is one of the holiest of the holy places for the followers of Sri Sri Thakur Anukul Chandra who spent his last 25 years of active life here.
Born on Sept 14, 1888 in Pabna, Bangladesh, Thakur Sri Sri Anukul Chandra was revered by his devotees as the incarnation of Lord Krishna.
On September 2, 1946, he set up the famous Satsang Ashram as Deoghar, which annually attracts lakhs of his followers.
Apart from a nationwide network, the Satsang has nearly 50 branches in five countries of the world.
