Banglore: National Human Rights Commission yesterday issued notice to the Karnataka government over alleged poor implementation of Right to Education Act especially for children belonging to weaker sections of the society.
According to an NHRC statement, the Commission issued a notice to the Chief Secretary of the government of Karnataka after taking suo motu cognizance of a media report.
The Chief Secretary has been given four weeks time to submit a report. According to the report, 34 per cent of seats including 37,000 seats guaranteed for poor students were lying vacant in schools of Karnataka due to poor implementation of Right to Education of the children belonging to weaker sections. Reportedly, these seats were lying vacant as the children from weaker sections were subjected to discrimination, the statement said.
The Commission has also observed that the contents of the media report, if true, raises a serious issue of violation of the Right to Education of the children belonging to weaker sections of the society.
