Mumbai, Jan 25 : Nearly 3,000 people dwelling in slums were rendered homeless when a major fire swept through Naya Nagar slum locality in Mahim early Friday morning.




Eleven fire tenders reached the spot and tried to douse the flames.

The slum is a densely located area housing as many as several wood godowns. The fire was first noticed between 4 am and 4:30 am.

Eight water tankers were also pressed into service. The cause of the fire is still not known.
