New Delhi: The centre is likely to push development projects in Maoist – hit areas like building road, bridges, educational institutions and other infrastructure.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh reviewed the developmental projects relating to roads, bridges, railway lines, mobile towers, post offices, banking infrastructure, education, hea;th, radio and TV connectivity apart from forest and environmental clearances in Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Odisha and Maharashtra.
“The Bastar region, considered to be the Maoist citadel, requires special attention for early completion of developmental projects and a coordinated action for tackling the rebels”, the Home minister said.
During Rajnath Singh's visit to Bastar, he met with Chief Ministers of Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra – Raman Singh and Devendra Fadnavis, respectively. Telangana and Odisha were represented by their chief secretaries and DGPs. Union ministers Nitin Gadkari, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Smriti Irani, Suresh Prabhu, Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary and Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore were also present.
The issue of opening more post offices and banking infrastructure in the Maoist- hit areas were highlighted.
Raman Singh emphasized on the need for installing higher capacity TV and radio stations, including FM radio stations, for better connectivity in the Bastar region. Increase in residential schools was also highlighted as a necessity.
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government is focusing on development in these areas besides carrying out offensives against the rebels.
The government also assured central assistance for solving the long-pending problem of extremism in the area.
