Bhubaneswar: The National Commission for Women today warned it could recommend to CBI the case of the teacher of Odisha's Raygada district who was burnt to death for refusing to withdraw a case of molestation.
“We will recommend handing over of the case to the CBI for a fair investigation, if the Crime Branch of Police fails in booking all the persons named in dying declaration of the teacher who died on November one,” Hemalata Kheria who led a two-member NCW team told reporters here.
The NCW asked the state government to file charge sheets against all those named in the dying declaration by the teacher who died after being set ablaze at Tikiri in Rayagada district.
“We have asked the Chief Secretary and DGP to file charge sheets against the persons named in the dying declaration,” the two NCW members said. The NCW members expressed displeasure to senior state government officials over the manner in which the state Crime Branch handled the probe so far.
The NCW team visited the family of the slain lady teacher who resided at Delang area in Puri district. The police have arrested Netrananda Dandsena, a dismissed sub-inspector of schools who allegedly molested the lady teacher.
The police suspected that Dandsena had engaged someone to set the teacher on fire after she refused to withdraw the case against him.
The state government has dismissed four persons including two police officers on charge of dereliction in duty in handling the case.
