New Delhi: National Mathematics Day will now be known as GANIT (mathematics). The day is celebrated on December 22 every year in order to mark the anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan.
GANIT stands as an acronym for Growing Aptitude Innovations & Training. While this kind of a sudden change to give a ‘Hindi name' to a policy or programme is not something novel, the anniversary this year happens to be a week long affair.
Encouraging teachers and students towards mathematics education, the event will be more of an activity session. The idea here is to make learning easy through various activities and with the use of Information & Communication Technology.
The curriculum of the event will be comprised of projects and assignments with Geogebra, derived from the combination of geometry and algebra. Geogebra is dynamic multi platform mathematics software providing the insights into what math can make possible.
Several video and audio programmes on mathematics also constitute the program of study.
Students too can contribute with various audios, videos, projects, posters and other documents on national repository of open educational resources.
