New Delhi: Delhi Lt Governor Najeeb Jung today announced an additional grant of 5 crore to the Tibbia College and Hospital in the current financial year to help improve the infrastructure and facilities.
Jung also directed the Secretary (Public Works Department), Secretary (Health) and Prinicipal Secretary (Finance) to work out a comprehensive restoration and renewal plan for the college and hospital.
This will include restoration of the buildings, upgradation and modernization of Out patient department (OPD) facilities, in patient wards, laboratories, hostels, pharmacy, library, kitchen and toilets.
Further, in order to strengthen the OPDs, Ayurveda and Unani experts from outside shall be invited to be on the hospital's panel.
A schedule of their weekly visits shall be drawn up and publicized for the general public.
The Lt Governor also stressed upon filling up the existing staff vacancies on an urgent basis.
Jung said that by 2016, which is the centenary year of the Ayurvedic and Unani Tibbia college and hospital, the facilities at the Tibbia college should be brought up to the best levels in the health industry.
He instructed all involved to put in their best efforts to help preserve the traditions of alternative medicine and a historically important institution.
The Ayurvedic and Unani Tibbia College and Hospital was established in 1916 and offers a Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) and Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS).
