Bollywood star Katrina Kaif asserted that her character in Prakash Jha's film Rajneeti was not based on Congress president Sonia Gandhi's life. “No, not at all. I know my character is not based on Sonia Gandhi's life”, said the actress.

Bollywood actors Katrina Kaif and Ranbir Kapoor, alongwith Manoj Vajpayee, Arjun Rampal and director Prakash Jha were grilled by Rajat Sharma in India TV's Aap Ki Adalat show.

Katrina however admitted that Prakash Jha had given her some videos of speeches by political leaders, which she went through before playing the role. “The key was to observe the body language and the way they conducted themselves on stage…I took little inspiration from everyone and compose a new character of my own”, she said.

Ranbir Kapoor, on his part denied that his role imitated Rahul Gandhi in real life. Asked by Rajat Sharma why he undertook a travel in Mumbai's local train as Rahul Gandhi did, Ranbir replied: “What Rahul did was a great thing. He met common people and spoke to them. I had gone  as part of the promotional strategy for Rajneeti to make people aware about the film's release.  I don't think my character is at all close to that of Rahul Gandhi”.

Director Prakash Jha clarified ‘Rajneeti' had nothing to do with anybody in the Gandhi family. “Soniaji's life is itself an inspiration for a great film altogether, but Rajneeti has nothing do with her”.

The director revealed that the Censor Board had earlier given an A certificate to the film and recommended several cuts, but when he approached the tribunal, it questioned the Board itself as to why it was given an A certificate.

“We then volunteered to cut down an aesthetically-shot lovemaking scene from 37 seconds to 18 second, blipped two swear words, and in a dialogue we replaced the word ‘vidhwa'(widow) with ‘bitiya'(daughter)”, said Jha. Katrina, on her part, clarified that she was not part of the lovemaking scene.Prakash Jha, who lost the last Lok Sabha elections from Bettiah on an LJP ticket, said: “My electoral politics is over. I am not going to contest elections any more”.

Asked whether she had any intention of joining politics, Katrina said: “No, not at all. Not right now.  I will concentrate on films. If I look at politics, that would be much, much, much later”.

The grilling of the entire frontline team of Rajneeti on Aap Ki Adalat will be telecast on Saturday (May 29) at 10 pm, and on Sunday (May 30) at 10 am and 10 pm. Do not miss!
