Muzaffarnagar: All shops and business establishments today remained closed in response to a bandh called by the BJP, police said here.
BJP called for the bandh to press its demand to withdraw cases registered against two youths in connection with Kawal incident in the district, they said.
No untoward incident was reported during the bandh.
Taking precautionary measures, the district administration had last night arrested some BJP activists in the city from different areas, they said.
Police has intensified patrolling in the area and security has been tightened, they added. Tension had erupted in the village on August 27 after three persons were killed in a minor dispute following the collision of two motorbikes.
Two persons Vikram and Mukararm were booked under the National Security Act for their alleged involvement in inciting violence in the village, Senior Superintendent of Police Subhash Chand Dubey said.
