Museum for differently abled to be set up in Chennai

Chennai, Apr 3: The Tamil Nadu government today announced setting up of a museum here for differently abled persons to create public awareness about them.





Chief Minister Jayalalithaa directed that such a museum be set up at a cost of Rs one crore, Minister for Social Welfare and Nutritious Meal Programme, B Valarmathi said in the Assembly.

Replying to questions on the grants to her department, the minister said the museum will among others, hold training sessions for differently abled and will display accessories used by such persons.

Further, 10 primary level zonal testing centres for hearing impaired would be set up in 10 districts of the state at a cost of Rs 1.98 crore, she said.

Earlier, in her policy note for her department tabled before the House, Valarmathi said around 970 child marriages had been stopped in the state between 2008 and February 28 2013.

Victims of child marriages are rehabilitated according to their age with the help of NGOs, she added.
