New Delhi: The memories of the carnage in Mumbai five years ago may have slowly faded, but there has always been one persistent question - why did terrorists kill innocents? The 10 terrorists involved in the carnage were killed during the operation carried out by Indian armed forces but there were many working behind the scene. Here is the list of the wanted accused in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks:1. Hafiz Mohammad Saeed Born in 1950 Hafiz Muhammad Saeed is the amir of Jama'at-ud-Da'wah, operating mainly from Pakistan. The organization is banned as terrorist organization by India, the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Russia and Australia. India considers him one of its most wanted terrorists because of his alleged ties with Lashkar-e-Taiba and its involvement in attacks against India, and he is listed on the NIA Most Wanted list. In April 2012, the United States announced a bounty of $10 million on Hafiz Saeed, for his alleged role in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. 2. Zaki-Ur-Rehman Lakhvi Zaki ur Rehman Lakhvi, born 1960, is a top leader of Lashkar-e-Taiba and currently serves as Supreme Commander of operations in Kashmir and as a member of LeT's General Council. On December 3, 2008 Indian officials named him as one of four possible major planners behind the November 2008 Mumbai Attacks. He reportedly offered to pay the family of Azam Amir Kasab the sum of Rs.150,000 for his participation in the attacks. He has directed military actions in Chechnya, Bosnia, Iraq and South-east Asia and is referred to as Chachu, or Uncle, by the young trainees. Indian officials claim Lakhvi also oversaw Azam Cheema, who has been accused of being a leader in the 2006 bombing of the Mumbai rail network that killed more than 200 and left 700 injured.3. Abu Hamza Abu Hamza aka Abu Jundal is an Indian national, terrorist belonging to Indian Mujahideen and Lashkar-e-Taiba. He is accused of being involved in 2008 Mumbai attacks. Zabiuddin Ansari (Abu Hamza)'s name was listed in the list of "50 most wanted criminals sheltered in Pakistan" released by India on 21 May 2011. He had served as the handler of the 10 LeT terrorists during 2008 Mumbai attacks. He is a suspect or an accused in several cases such as the Ahmedabad railway station blast case of February 19, 2006, the Aurangabad arms haul case of May 2006 and co-accused in German bakery blast case. He was deported from Saudi Arabia on 25 June 2012 and is currently in the custody of Indian security agencies.4. Abu Al Qama Abu Al Qama is a senior Lashkar-e-Tayyiba (LeT) Commander who was in charge of the Kashmir set up till 2008. He was a key conspirator of the Mumbai terror attacks. He was involved in training and briefing of all the 10 terrorists who carried out the Mumbai terror attacks and was present in Karachi when the attackers left the shores of Pakistan for Mumbai. Abu Al Qama was most probably present in the Lashkar control room during 26/11, where he was exhorting the attackers to kill more and more people. 5. Abu Qahafa Abu Qahafa is a senior LeT trainer and an expert in handling arms and explosives. He was one of the main conspirators of the Mumbai terror attacks. He is an absconding accused in the Mumbai terror attack case. He was closely involved in providing physical and technical training to the 10 terrorists who carried out the Mumbai attacks. He imparted training in GPS handling and map reading to the attackers. During the entire period when the Mumbai terror attacks conspiracy was being hatched, he acted as a secretary to Sajid Majeed. 6. Yusuf Muzammil Status Unknown, Presumed living in Pakistan – Senior member of Lashkar-e-Taiba. Named as the handler of Faheem Ansari, who was arrested in February 2008 scouting sites for attack in Mumbai, as well as mastermind of the attacks by surviving gunman Amjal Kamal. 7. Zarar Shah In Pakistani custody – one of Lashkar-e-Taiba's primary liaisons to the ISI. Investigators in India are also examining whether Shah, a communications specialist, helped plan and carry out the attacks in Mumbai. He's a central character in this plot," an American official said. Zarar Shah confessed to Pakistani authorities that LeT carried out the attacks, according to the Wall Street Journal.8. Abu Fahad Ullah Dead – from Dipalpur Taluka. Attacked Hotel Oberoi. He had called India TV and claimed to be part of Deecan Mujahideen. He also claimed to be one of seven attackers in the Oberoi. 9. Major Iqbal Major Iqbal is suspected to be a Pakistan ISI officer who was posted in Lahore during 2007 and 2008. Major Iqbal was handling David Coleman Headley on behalf of ISI for the Mumbai terror attacks. He provided funds ($25,000) and FICN to David Coleman Headley for meeting his expenses during the surveillance operations in India. Major Iqbal, on behalf of the ISI, was actively involved in the planning and execution of Mumbai terror attacks.
