New Delhi, May 28: Mumbai Congress chief Kripashankar Singh, who is battling corruption charges, is likely to be replaced soon.

Highly placed party sources said that a search is on for Singh's successor.

Various groups in the city Congress have been mounting pressure on the party high command for the removal of Singh in the wake of the charges against him.

The CBI has found evidence of financial transactions between Singh and former Jharkhand minister Kamlesh Singh, an aide of former chief minister Madhu Koda. There are reports that factions led by Union ministers Murli Deora and Gurudas Kamat want their nominees to succeed Singh.

From Deora's camp, names of MP Milind Deora and Eknath Gaikwad MP are being suggested. The Kamat group wants Chandrakant Handore, a local Dalit, or Rajhans Singh to take over. A Marathi legislator from Byculla, Madhu Chavan, is also in the running.

An early decision on the successor of Singh is needed as the crucial Mumbai civic elections are less than a year away. PTI
