Mumbai, March 7 : More than a hundred slum dwellings were gutted in a devastating fire late last night in Shastri Nagar adjoining Bandra here.
As the flames spread, LPG cylinders being used by the slum dwellers began exploding one by one exacerbating the situation.
Dozens of fire engines and tankers were pressed in to douse the flames. Eight persons were injured during firefighting operations.
Slumdwellers began vacating their household items as the flames spread.
The slums adjoin Bandra railway sttion, which is in a crowded locality, and fire tenders had a tough time in dousing the flames.
The cause of the fire is still not known.
