New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs is considering a proposal to hike up Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi's security in view of threat perceptions following his anointment as BJP prime ministerial candidate for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

Modi is presently getting an inner cordon  cover of 36 NSG commandos. His security was enhanced in June this year after IB reports came in about threats from radical outfits.

At present  a total of 108 National Security Guards personnel have been deployed for Modi's security with the outer cordon looked after by Gujarat police.

Modi's travels outside Gujarat has increased since his arrival on the national scene, with rallies planned extensively by the BJP across the country in the run-up to the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

The NSG has complained to the Centre about Modi not informing his commandos in advance about his sudden travel plans to HP, Karnataka and Delhi. This has happened four times in the past three months.

" We just cannot take any risk as he is also the most threatened person," said an NSG officer.

Modi is presently on top of the list of 16 VIPs having  Z-plus security.

Others include BJP leader L K Advani, BSP supremo  Mayawati, Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa, Chhattisgarh CM Raman Singh and UP CM Akhilesh Yadav.
