Ahmedabad, Sep 19: Noted danseuse Mallika Sarabhai, who was taken into preventive custody after she made a bid to protest against the Gujarat government at Naroda Patiya on Sunday, said her agitation against “injustice” in the state will continue.

“I just have to say that the detention makes everything that Modi is doing at the GMDC ground and every single word he has spoken about repentance a lie...The protest will continue,” she told reporters here.

“I along with close to hundred other people, most of whom were victims of the terrible violence at Naroda Patiya, were detained and just released,” Sarabhai said. “We had decided with Jan Sangharsh Manch to stage a silent protest at the place where the carnage took place but we did not get permission for a completely non-violent protest. We were going to give a letter and a memorandum to Chief Minister Narendra Modi but even before reaching the place, we were arrested,” she said.

“All the people who were in detention with us were the people who had lost their families, who had seen their daughters being raped, who were crying even after 10 years after getting no justice,” Sarabhai said.

“For the last two days, Modi has been saying he feels sorry for what happened. He wants to rectify his mistakes. What was the need for preventive detention? What was the need for squashing something that was completely non-violent attempt?” she asked.“Everything Modi is saying is a lie. If we can not even protest against injustice then there is no ‘Sadhbhavana'anywhere and there is no true repentance,” Sarabhai said. PTI
