The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh has refuted claims of banning the use of mobile phones in colleges and universities in the state.
IANS had earlier reported that a circular was issued by the Directorate of Higher Education in Uttar Pradesh mentioning a blanket ban on the use of mobile phones inside universities and colleges.
Giving out a clarification, Deputy chief minister Dinesh Sharma was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times: “Yes, the students are expected to keep their phones on silent or switch off mode during classes so that teaching is not disturbed… That order already exists.”
Refuting the report, Dr Vandana Sharma, director, higher education, UP, said: "This is completely untrue. No order has been issued by my office till date to ban cellphones in universities and degree college.”
