New Delhi: A delegation of Kashmiri separatist leaders met Pakistan Prime Minister's foreign adviser Sartaj Aziz on Sunday and demanded that the  people of the valley be taken into confidence before chalking out any solution for Kashmir.

Aziz is in New Delhi to participate in the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) and will also meet India's External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid.

Aziz told the Kashmiri leaders that he hoped for peace along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir.

Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said Kashmir was a  political issue and can only be resolved through dialogue.

“It is high time that a serious engagement between India, Pakistan and the leadership of Kashmir should start and we should try to resolve the issue in accordance with the  aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir", Mirwaiz said.

Hurriyat, he said,  has always maintained that at the India-Pakistan level,  mutual trust needs to be built.

Mirwaiz demanded that the process of demilitarisation in Kashmir should start and there should be some movement forward towards a political solution.

Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief  Yasin Malik said,  people of Kashmir must be taken into consideration while chalking out a solution.

“When there are talks on the issue of Kashmir then it is the right of the people of the state that they are also made a part of it. The people of Kashmir should not be told about their future through radio or TV, but be made a part of it,” said Malik.
