She is an Indian chess Grandmaster and was also the world's youngest woman grandmaster at the age of 15 years, 1 month and 27 days.

In 2007 she surpassed the rating of 2577 set by Susan Polgar (often known as Zsuzsa Polgár) to become the second-highest ranked female player in history.

She became the second female player ever, after Judit Polgár, to exceed the 2600 Elo mark.

She was awarded with the prestigious Padma Shri award in 2007.
