New Delhi, Mar 5: An MBBS student allegedly committed suicide in his hostel room at the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences here on Sunday morning, police said.
Anil Kumar (22), who hailed from Baran district in Rajasthan, was found hanging by his friends in his hostel room this morning. He was immediately rushed to the hospital where he was declared brought dead.
“Kumar had failed in the first year exams as well as internal examinations. He had also low attendance and was not promoted to the senior classes. Also, he had problems in following lectures in English.
“He had kept himself locked inside his room throughout yesterday,” Chhaya Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), said.
This morning, she said, his friends who did not hear him for the past one day called the security guard and made him look into the room through the ventilator only to find him hanging.
No suicide note was recovered from him, she said adding inquiries were made about him from his friends and college staff.
He is the eldest of four brothers.The body has been sent for post mortem and his family has been informed.
AIIMS spokesperson Y K Gupta said the reason behind the student taking the extreme step was yet to be ascertained.
