Seeking a lift in a car proved disastrous for a 25-year-old married woman in Pune on Thursday, as she was gangraped by occupants of a share taxi in which she was travelling, police said on Friday.
The woman, an MBA in hospitality management, had gone for an interview in Wakad area taking lift in the vehicle when she was abducted and allegedly raped by three persons, already present in the share taxi on Thursday night, Mahesh Patil, DSP Zone 2, Pune, said.
Police said, the woman was in the moving car from 4 pm till 12 midnight, during which time the assailants had biryani and beer culminating in the gangrape. The assailants continuously threatened to kill her if she shouted. At 12.30 am, the woman was thrown at a lonely spot, after which she trekked to the Hinjwadi police station to file her FIR.
The woman's husband is a software engineer working in a US company, police said.
Two assailants from Man village near Hinjwadi, Ganesh Kamble and Ranjit Gade, have been detained for interrogation, they said, adding the medical report in the case is awaited. The third assailant Subhash Bhosale is absconding.
The victim, who hails from Nagpur, was staying with her aunt in Wakad locality of Pune.
Local residents said there had been earlier instances of gangrape of some software techies by these criminals in the locality. Two girls had been killed after rape, locals said.
