Lucknow, Apr 12: Former Uttar Pradesh chief minister and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati received a shot in the arm Thursday when an old associate and Dalit leader R.K. Chowdhary joined the party after a gap of 12 years.
Chowdhary said he would work overtime to ensure that the BSP chief was sworn-in as the next prime minister.
He asked his supporters to work for the success of the BSP in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls.
His return to the BSP is being seen as a jolt to the ruling Samajwadi Party which recognised the influence of Chowdhary in the Pasi community and wanted to have an "electoral understanding" with him ahead of the Lok Sabha election in 2014, sources said.
