Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police claimed to have raided a Maoist camp Friday and killed a rebel during a fierce gun fight with the Left-wing extremists.

Based on intelligence inputs about the presence of Maoists in a forested area of Bolangir district, about 400 km from the state capital Bhubaneswar, police and paramilitary force personnel raided the area, a police official told IANS.

During the search in the Gandhamardan hills, the team came under heavy fire from the rebels and retaliated. The exchange of fire continued for nearly 20 minutes, he said.

The team recovered the body of a rebel who was killed during the shootout. A rifle with cartridges, kit bags, explosives, Maoist literature, uniform, huge quantity of food items and polythenes were among the goods seized from the site, he said.
