Allahabad: A large number of firearms licenses in Muzaffarnagar, which were suspended following the recent communal riots in the western Uttar Pradesh district, have been restored, the Allahabad High Court was informed yesterday.
In an affidavit filed before Justice Tarun Agrawal, the state government submitted that “around 500 arms licenses, belonging to those who did not have any criminal record” have been restored.
The submission came in course of hearing on a writ petition filed by a Muzaffarnagar resident Rajendra Singh, who had moved the court challenging the suspension of his firearm license.
The petitioner had also alleged that arms licenses of people belonging to “only one particular community” had been suspended in the riot-hit district.
Justice Agarwal fixed December 13 as the next date of hearing in the matter.
