Ashok, a 37-year-old man from Ambernath in Maharashtra set his wife on fire in the early hours of Wednesday for allegedly refusing to have sex with him the way he had seen in porn movies.
The 35-year-old woman suffered 65 per cent burns and is currently admitted to the Central Hospital, reports Mumbai Mirror.
The incident took place around 1.30 am on Wednesday in Ordinance Colony. According to the victim, her husband, employed with a private firm, frequently watches porn films and at times even makes her watch them.
She said in her statement to police, “In the past, he has, on multiple occasions, insisted that we watch these films together and then simulate the scenes in bed.”
The woman also said that she has had bitter fights with him for refusing to accede to his demands.
Speaking to Mumbai Mirror she said, “He asked me to have sex in a particular manner yet again on Tuesday night. “When I refused, he started abusing and assaulting me. I have never seen that side of him. Before I could realise what was happening, he poured kerosene on me and set me on fire.”
She was rushed to the hospital by her family members. The husband also suffered burns to his hands in the process and is being treated at the same hospital.
DCP Saran Awhad of Ambarnath Police Station said, “The woman has told us in her statement that her husband expected her to have sex in weird positions which she simply did not agree to. This enraged him.”
He added, “We have booked Ashok for attempted murder and will be interrogating him after he is discharged from the hospital.”
