Burdwan (WB), Jul 6: Suspecting a 35-year-old man to be a thief, a mob today lynched him in the Burdwan Medical College and Hospital compound here.
Superintendent of Police SMH Mirza said Insan Sheikh was beaten up by a mob in front of the maternity ward of the hospital.
When Sheikh, a resident of Rasikpur locality in this district headquarter town, was taken to the emergency ward, he was declared brought dead.
Three persons were arrested in this connection, the SP said.
Later, another mob arrived from Rasikpur and ransacked several shops in the hospital compound as they suspected that those shop owners were behind the killing of Sheikh.
Five more persons were taken into custody for the ransacking, Mirza said.
