Railway Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Friday demanded rollback of LPG, diesel and kerosene price hike saying that it will hit the ‘aam aadmi' hard.
Banerjee said, the common man should not be overburdened. “I had met the Finance Minister and had told him not to go for the hike. I will meet the Prime Minister. I am not happy with the fuel price hike.”
Banerjee flared up when she was asked why she did not attend the Empowered Group of Ministers meeting. “Do you think I should have attended the meeting to put my seal of approval to the decision?”
Said Mamata: “We are a minority party having only 19 members. In our state, we may be the major party, but at the Centre the UPA has got 271 members. Kya aap chahte ho, hum jaan ke mohar lagaate?”( do you think we should have approved knowingly)
“I know we give crucial support to the government, but there is no question of toppling. We are not happy at all, but in a democracy, we will put forth our views within the system”, she added.Banerjee said fuel prices had been hiked 4 months back, and she would request the PM to reconsider the decision.
