Trinamool Congress, a constituent of the UPA government at the Centre, on Monday demanded the full report of the Liberhan Commisson on demolition of Babri Masjid be placed in Parliament as early as possible and those responsible for the demolition be punished.
"The entire report should be tabled in the House early and appropriate steps taken against the guilty," Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee said in a brief comment.
The chief whip of Trinamool Congress parliamentary party in Lok Sabha, Sudip Bandyopadhyay, told PTI from New Delhi that "the report should be placed on the floor of the House as early as possible when the government has decided to table it in the current session itself."
"It is good that the Union Home Minister has assured that the government is going to table the report in the current session of the House. But the report should be tabled as early as possible so as not to give the opposition any opportunity to disrupt proceedings of the House."
He said Trinamool Congress MPs wanted to use the current session of the House to raise many important issues like Maoist problem in West Bengal, "alleged state-sponsored terrorism in the state and attempt to gag the voice of the opposition by the ruling party by unleashing a reign of terror by CPI(M) cadres".
