A significant fire has erupted on a merchant vessel carrying hazardous cargo approximately 102 nautical miles southwest of Goa, according to the Indian Coast Guard (ICG). The incident was reported late Friday evening.
An ICG ship is currently engaged in firefighting operations amidst challenging weather conditions and rough seas. Additionally, two more ICG ships are en route to the scene to assist with the response.
The vessel, en route from Mundra to Colombo, was reported to be carrying "International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) cargo." The Coast Guard has noted that explosions have been occurring in the front part of the ship.
