Nagpur: The Maharashtra government today decided to give promotions to policemen who have done outstanding work in Maoist-affected Gadchiroli, Bhandara, Gondia and Chandrapur districts in the Vidarbha region.

The Maharashtra Cabinet which met under Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan's chairmanship took the decision in Mumbai.

Accordingly, all policemen posted in Maoist-affected areas, right from constables to assistant police inspectors would stand to benefit.

Their promotions would be decided by an internal committee headed by an officer of the rank of Inspector General of Police.

Similarly, promotion for policemen from sub-inspector to assistant police inspector would be finalised by a committee headed by the Director General of Police.

Speaking to PTI, Inspector General of Police (Nagpur Range) Ravindra Kadam, who is officer in-charge of anti-Maoist operations in Gadchiroli, said that it would be a morale booster for policemen deployed in these areas.

Representatives had lobbied the state government to introduce more incentives for policemen posted in Maoist-affected areas, he said.
