New Delhi: To avail the subsidy on LPG cylinders, the registration for the direct benefit transfer of LPG (DBTL) subsidy scheme is due to end by March-end. There are still lakhs of consumers in every city who are yet to register for the scheme.

The subsidy for the 14.2 kg LPG cylinder has been fixed at Rs 568 that will be directly transferred to the bank account of the consumer. To receive the subsidy amount under the scheme, the consumers have to register themselves and provide a bank account. The last date for the registration is March 31.

There would still be a grace period till June for those who are unable to complete the formalities by March end. But the extension will only be given to the consumers who have already completed partial formalities. The consumers who have registered with the distributor and only bank formalities are pending will be able to apply during the extension period.

Almost 70% of the consumers have applied for the schemes but there are a significant number of them who have to complete formalities. There are still long queues at LPG dealer agencies with the registration form .

Consumers have to either submit Aadhaar details to the distributor and the bank, or fill up a bank mandate form available with the dealer and link it to the subsidy mechanism. The consumers who do not have Aadhar card can also avail the scheme.

Oil marketing companies plan to reach out to consumers through awareness camps on the subsidy transfer scheme and by collecting forms directly from housing colonies.

The purpose of the scheme is to end the black marketing of the LPG cylinders. More than 10 crore have joined the scheme across the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the scheme as “one of the largest cash transfer schemes in the world".
