Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Lok Sabha elections are scheduled to be held in seven phases beginning April 19. The counting of votes is set for June 4. With just a few days left for the polls to commence, star campaigners of different political parties are holding election rallies to connect with the voters and strengthen their individual parties' chances in the upcoming polls.     RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav on Thursday evaded queries on a controversial remark of his eldest sister Misa Bharti, who has said Prime Minister Narendra Modi would be "in jail" if the BJP was ousted from power at the Centre. The former Bihar deputy chief minister said "issues" should get more attention from the media and rued that "protests" against Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his visit to the state did not get coverage. "What is the need for me to speak on what somebody has said about someone else? We should talk about issues," quipped Yadav, son and heir apparent of RJD president Lalu Prasad, when his response was sought on Bharti's comments. A Rajya Sabha MP, Bharti is trying her luck from Patliputra Lok Sabha seat, which her father has lost once and where she has tasted defeat twice. Her statement before a posse of media persons has evoked outrage from the BJP, with senior leaders like Ravi Shankar Prasad warning her against going overboard, reminding her of her family's legal wrangles.

    Mayawati slams BJP on electoral bonds, says no 'jumla' or guarantee will help it win polls

    Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati on Thursday accused the BJP of helping capitalists, wealthy individuals and taking financial assistance from them through electoral bonds and added her party did not take a single paisa through the scheme. Mayawati emphasised no 'jumla' (rhetoric) or guarantee will work for the BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections because people have realized that not even one-fourth of promises made by the ruling party have been fulfilled and they have yet to see 'achhe din' (good days) assured by it. She raised concerns over reliability of Electronic Voting Machine (EVMs) and holding of free and fair elections. Mayawati was addressing an election rally in Nagpur in support of BSP Lok Sabha candidates contesting in Maharashtra's Vidarbha region.

    The BJP on Thursday named NISHAD Party MLA Vinod Bind as its candidate for the Bhadohi Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh. Bind is the sitting MLA from Majhawan assembly seat in Mirzapur district. The NISHAD Party is an alliance partner of the BJP. By giving a ticket to Bind, the BJP overlooked sitting Bhadohi MP Ramesh Chand.     Himachal Pradesh bolsters border security ahead of Lok Sabha elections 2024

    Himachal Pradesh Police chief Sanjay Kundu has said that security forces are maintaining a strict vigil on the state's borders with Punjab in view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. This is being done to "ensure free and fair polls" in the state, the director general of police (DGP) said during a high-level meeting held here on Wednesday night.

    Karnataka: Rs 45.67 crore cash, Rs 146 crore worth alcohol seized by Election Commission

    The Election Commission on Thursday said that Rs 45.67 crore cash and alcohol worth over Rs 146 crore was seized and 1,544 FIRs in this regard have been filed since the model code of conduct came into effect on March 16.
