Hours after resigning from the primary membership of the Congress, senior party leader Tajinder Singh Bittu joined the BJP in New Delhi today. Also known to be a close aide of Priyanka Gandhi, Tajinder Singh Bittu joined the BJP in the presence of Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and party general secretary Vinod Tawde at the party headquarters in New Delhi.
Speaking to reporters, Tajinder Singh Bittu said, "I have spent almost 35 years in the Congress Party, and today I feel that the Congress Party has deviated from the issues. I do not want to speak against anyone. For the betterment of Punjab, I joined the BJP.''
It is pertinent to note that the development comes mere hours after the former AICC secretary co-in-charge of Himachal Pradesh tendered his resignation to Congress party president Mallikarjun Kharge.
In a letter to the Congress President, Bittu also mentioned stepping down as secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), the secretary in charge of Himachal Pradesh.
“I hereby tender my resignation from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress and from my post at AICC, secretary co-in-charge of Himachal Pradesh, effective immediately," he wrote.
