New Delhi: Intelligence agencies have issued a nation-wide alert that around 18 Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists have entered the country from across the border to carry out terror attacks during New Year.
The inputs specifically mentioned that terrorists are planning to disrupt peace and harmony by targeting popular tourist destinations during the New Year festivities.
The intelligence inputs also warned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Parliament, South Block and nuclear installations may be on the radar of the terror outfit.
The alert further said that LeT is once again planning to carry out an attack on the lines of 26/11.
LeT was responsible for the 2008 terror attacks in Mumbai. Recently, a LeT militant was killed in an encounter with security forces in north Kashmir's Bandipora district.
Earlier this month, the Delhi Police had filed an FIR stating that LeT operatives were planning terror attacks on the capital and other cities in India.
The intelligence alert came a day after the Centre asked all states to be extra vigilant during the New Year festivities.
Following this, the government has asked all states to deploy additional forces at crowded places like railway stations, bus terminals, markets and religious places to foil attempts by terrorists to carry out attacks.
LeT is said to be the closest militant organisation to the Pakistani Army and it gets full training support from them.
