Jaipur: The Law and Order situation in Rajasthan was far better in 2014 as compared to the previous years with only eight cases of minor communal tensions being registered in the state, an official report has said.
Law and Order (L&O) wing of Rajasthan Police managed eight incidents of communal tensions in parts of the state as compared to 11 in 2013, a Police Headquarters report on L&O said.
In total, L&O management exigency also declined in the state in 2014 as it was required on 149 fronts including communal tensions, rallies, protests, bandh, religious fairs, Assembly session, election, VVIP visits and strikes against 200 in 2013.
Rajasthan did not witness any caste-based tensions in 2014 calender year whereas 2013 witnessed 11 such incidents, the report covering incidents from 2009 to 2014 said. L&O situation was disturbed four times during rallies, bandh, protests, and gharao in 2014 as against seven in 2013 year.
It also claimed that L&O machinery proved its efficiency and far reaching grip on crime management by holding free and fair four major elections of state Assembly, Lok Sabha, Civic bodies and Panchayati Raj in Rajasthan since November 2013 as these were incident free.
When contacted the Special Director-General of Police, Law and Order (DGP-L&O) Navdeep Singh said that in spite of adverse crime situation and routine incidents, law and order in Rajasthan mainly remained outstanding as compared to adjoining states in north-west India.
“If crime management, prevention of management and detection of crime is not good, then these adversely affect the state's law and order. This aspects depend upon the district crime management teams, and more on the leadership provided by crime branch of Police Headquarters,” Singh told PTI.
“Many times the emerging challenges, new crime remains unsolved by the other agencies adversely affect on law and order situation in the state thereby L&O tackling apparatus of police comes under extra-pressure which was the case from 2009-2013,” he claimed.
Besides providing the best law and order management during all four elections, the L&O machinery managed effectively over 20 major events/incidents including Gurjar Arakashan protests, lawyers' strike, religious festivals, sessions of state assembly, Jaipur's Ring Road, one year of government's celebration, and state's events of “Sarkar Apke Dwar” programmes in Bharatpur, Bikaner and Udaipur, Singh claimed.
