New Delhi: A suspected LeT operative, whose arrest and alleged connection with Muzaffarnagar region have created a controversy, was today remanded in judicial custody till January 21 by a Delhi court.


28-year-old Rashid was produced before additional sessions judge Daya Prakash after expiry of his police custody and the special cell of Delhi Police told the court that he was not required for further custodial interrogation.

The special cell said their investigation in the case was going on and Rashid, who was arrested on December 16 last year, be remanded in judicial custody.  

The court allowed police's plea and remanded Rashid in judicial custody till January 21.

Another co-accused in the case and suspected LeT operative Shahid is also in judicial custody till January 21.

Earlier on January 10, advocate M S Khan, who is appearing for both the accused, had apprised the court that a letter has been sent by his clients to Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde requesting him to transfer the case from the special cell of Delhi Police to National Investigation Agency (NIA).  

The accused had said the matter requires a “thorough and fair” probe as there were loopholes in the version of special cell.
