Shimla: Himachal Pradesh is virtually polio-free and no case of the disease has been reported since 2009, Health Minister Kaul Singh Thakur said yesterday.
The last case was detected in 2009 in Solan district and the state has remained polio-free since then, he said.
The minister was administering polio drops to children in Badsar area in Hamirpur district as part of the pulse polio vaccination drive in the hill state.
Thakur said nearly 7.5 lakh children in the state were vaccinated against polio yesterday.
He said to further strengthen health services in the state, 700 posts of para-medical staff are being filled.
