He expressed his willingness to remain in Maharashtra where he served for 34 years as IPS officer.

The senior IPS officer, who has several books to his credit, was appointed Mumbai Police Commissioner, one of the most high profile posts in the Indian police establishment, in August 2012.

During a career spanning over three decades, Singh held several top positions in Maharashtra Police.

He served as Police Commissioner of Pune and Nagpur and was Additional Director General when he was chosen for the present assignment nearly one-and-a-half years ago.

Meanwhile, senior BJP leader Gopinath Munde said neither he nor any other party leader had held any talk with Singh.

"Singh has neither contacted me nor has he contacted any leader from Maharashtra BJP. We would have known had he contacted any leader at the Centre," Munde told reporters here.

He, however, said in terms of ideology, Singh should back BJP. "He can join BJP. If he decides to join the party, then we can consider it," Munde said.
