Visakhapatnam: A seven-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 15-year-old boy at Yeguvapeta in Bheemunipatnam town in the district, police said.
The minor girl's parents approached the Bheemunipatnam police and lodged a complaint against the accused, they said.
He allegedly lured the girl, who is from the same community and area as him.
While the 15-year-old boy was taken into police custody, the victim was shifted to the King George Hospital in Visakhapatnam for treatment and medical examination.
According to Bheemunipatnam circle Inspector S Lakshmana Murthy, the minor girl went to a nearby shop to buy groceries last night, when the accused allegedly took her to his residence in the absence of his family members.
He beat her up and forced himself on her.
The victim's mother came to know about the incident after she reached home crying and in a bad condition and revealed everything.
The girl's parents reportedly went to catch hold of the accused, who had already fled the place.
Though community elders tried to convene a meeting between both the families, the victim's parents lodged a police complaint, defying warnings from community elders who reportedly promised to “solve” the issue.
The accused was taken into custody yesterday, the police said.
