New Delhi: Ahmedabad police crime branch on Saturday registered an FIR of cheating and breach of trust against activist Teesta Setalvad and four others within a fortnight of a court rejecting Zakia Jafri's case of conspiracy in the 2002 riots against chief minister Narendra Modi and 59 others.
The riot victims had lodged a complaint against Setalvad for allegedly collecting foreign donations, but not utilising them for the intended purpose.
Twelve residents of the Gulbarg Society had sent a complaint to the Police Commissioner against Setalvad around a year ago, who had directed a crime branch probe.
Terming the FIR as vindictive action of Gujarat Police, Setalvad has alleged that timing of the FIR replete with a threat of arrests is nothing, but efforts to prevent prompt filing of appeal in the Zakia Jafri case against Narendra Modi and 59 others.
The FIR was lodged under various sections of IPC for conspiracy, cheating, criminal breach of trust and the Information Technology Act.
