Ahmedabad: Gujarat government yesterday decided to call a short session of state Assembly beginning February 20 to pass the Vote on Account, apparently because of busy schedule of Chief Minister Narendra Modi ahead of Lok Sabha polls.
“The Assembly session will start from February 20.
Keeping in mind the past traditions due to Lok Sabha elections, a vote on account of four months will be presented on February 21,” said Finance Minister Nitin Patel.
The short session, probably of a week, is being called by the state government as Modi, who is BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate, will apparently remain engaged in campaigning in other parts of the country.
Usually, the budget session of Assembly lasts over a month, but due to this decision the House will have to meet again to pass budget four months after Lok Sabha polls.
Lok Sabha polls are likely to be held in April-May.
