Pune: A 10-year-old girl student Samruddhi Pawar of Modern Primary High School became unconscious in the classroom on Thursday morning and was declared dead later in the day after she was taken to a hospital.
Family alleged that the school authorities delayed in rushing her to the hospital. The school is run by the Progressive Education Society.
Samruddhi's father Tatya Pawar said he received a call from the school around 9.45 am.
Pawar said: “They asked me to reach the school immediately, as Samruddhi had become unconscious. I reached the school within 10 minutes and found her in that state.
"We rushed her to the nearby Kulkarni Hospital, but doctors there asked us to shift her to a bigger hospital, as her condition was deteriorating. We then took her to Ratna Hospital, where she was declared dead during treatment.”
According to Pawar, before leaving for school in the morning, Samruddhi was fine, and had even had a normal breakfast.
“I cannot believe that she is no more. She had no medical problem,” Pawar said.
Parents alleged that school authorities did not shift her to the hospital immediately. She would have been alive if they could have taken her to hospital on time.
Chatuhshringi police station has registered a case of accidental death and are verifying the claims of the alleged negligence on part of school officials.
Police said, a postmortem was conducted but doctors are yet to unravel the cause of her death.
