New Delhi: A section of Delhi University students yesterday boycotted classes and staged a protest in North Campus in response to DUSU and ABVP's call for a bandh to demand roll back of the four-year undergraduate programme.

Delhi University Students Union claimed classes had been affected due to the mass boycott, but DU Registrar Alka Sharma said absenteeism noted was usual like any other day.

DUSU President Aman Awana said, “ABVP had campaigned in various colleges on this issue for several days. Campaigning was held for many days and the message (for boycott) had been circulated over the social media as well, owing to which many students did not even turn up.

“Students who had come to the colleges to attend classes were requested by ABVP activists to boycott classes on student issues and many obliged,” he said.

Several protestors were of the view that the programme would not help in getting employment, once out of the university.

Awana said their “Save Delhi University! Save Education!” movement will continue until FYUP is rolled back.

On being contacted, DU Registrar Sharma said there was hardly anything amiss and classes had been conducted as usual.

The programme entails awarding a diploma if a student exits after two years, a bachelor's degree after three years and a bachelor's degree with honours or a B Tech degree on completion of four years.
