In the melee, some Congress activists and policemen were also injured, official sources said.

Lalli's condition, according to hospital sources was out of danger.

Meanwhile, state Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa condemned the police attack on partymen, who, he claimed, were peacefully demonstrating for Majithia's attack.

In a statement, Bajwa alleged the Congress workers were beaten up without any provocation and it was astonishing that state machinery was protecting a person who has ruined the youth of Punjab.

He said that Congress would continue the protests till the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal seeks a CBI inquiry into the alleged drug racket.
