New Delhi: The Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi has written to the Finance Ministry to convey that no foreign multi-brand retail stores will be allowed to be opened in the capital.

Former chief minister Sheila Dikshit's government had allowed opening of foreign multi-brand retail stores in Delhi, but that decision has been rescinded by the AAP government.

In a letter sent to the DIG of the division under Finance Ministry, the Delhi government has said it was withdrawing its approval to opening of foreign multi-brand retail stores.

The UPA government at the Centre had allowed foreign multi-brand retail stores in India with 51 per cent equity by foreign companies, subject to the condition that the concerned state government must approve the opening of such stores.
