New Delhi: Nearly one-and-a-half-years after starting probe in coalgate, CBI is likely to examine as a witness TKA Nair, advisor to Prime Minister, in connection with alleged irregularities in the allocation of coal blocks.

The sources said agency is likely to record the statement of Nair on the issue of allocation of Talabira coal block to Hindalco.

In its FIR against Hindalco, CBI has alleged that the company got the coal block even after being rejected by the Screening Committee.

It alleged that the only material change that took place between rejection of Hindalco's application by the Screening Committee and allotment were two letters routed to the then Coal Secretary P C Parakh through the PMO and his personal meeting with Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairman of Aditya Birla Group.

Nair's comments may also be sought on some other coal block allocations especially those allotted when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was holding the charge of the Coal Ministry.

The sources said Nair's examination is likely to take place by the end of this month as the apex court has directed the agency to complete its probe in Coal scam by April end.

They said the agency needs to seek his clarification as it is going to wrap up its probe and inform the Supreme Court about the outcome of the case.

CBI will be filing its final reports in five coal scam cases before March 26.
